Meet DJ Michelle: The UAE’s 9-Year-Old Challenger in DMC DJ Competition

This kid has mad skills! Nine-year-old DJ Michelle from Dubai is one of the youngest turntablists to ever enter a DMC DJing competition. The insanely talented Michelle joins a growing kids’ club of DMC hopefuls over the years. The son of 2018 DMC US finalist DJ Remedy, DJ Gliding was just six-years-old son when he competed in NYC three years ago. Eight-year-old Filipino Canadian DJ Cayle is competing in the same battle as Michelle this year. And Japan’s DJ Rena was 12 when he won the DMC World Championship in 2017.

One of the youngest professional DJs in the world, DJ Michelle will represent the UAE in DMC’s World Portablist DJ Competition. The comp calls for DJs to show off their scratch skills on portable turntables. Michelle will battle against DJs from Belgium, Spain, USA, Canada, UK, Indonesia, Germany, Italy and Nepal. Showcase

All entries for the World Portablist DJ Competition must be submitted by midnight (EST) on Thursday 29 April. Judges will decide which DJs to advance to the finals and finalists must submit a two-minute video showcasing their skills. The DJs must only use an analogue battery powered portable turntable and vinyl records. A battery powered analogue mixer or fader is also acceptable. The finalists will be announced on 5 May and the winner on 29 May. Good luck, Michelle!

DJ Michelle is a bit of an internet sensation already – with over 100,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram. A video of her scratching skills posted online by DJ Mag has been viewed 3.5 million times. The youngster was a semi-finalist in the recent Goldie Awards DJ Battle where she faced off against Fummy and DJ Lazyboy. Where does her talent come from? Well, Michelle has a good teacher – her dad DJ Shock. He’s competing in the same battle too.

Established in 1985, DMC DJ Championships are the world’s biggest, longest running and most prestigious DJ battles.
