Italian designer Elisa Arienti wants to funk up your life by injecting colour and bold patterns into your wardrobe. Based in Dubai, Elisa is the Co-founder and Creative Director behind independent ready-to-wear clothing brand La Come Di. The clothes she creates are fun conversation starters; garments to wear with a smile. This is a glimpse into Elisa’s life less ordinary…
I started La Come Di because…
I always wanted to escape the corporate world and become a visual artist in all the fields of design I love. Launched in 2017, the brand has evolved into a mixed streetwear/ready-to-wear label with much more depth put into tailoring, textures and uniqueness in prints and cuts.
We create…
great quality clothing at affordable prices produced in small quantities only. LCD combines the love of playful textiles and bold colours with versatile silhouettes. Our designs are deeply connected to the world of colour blocks and patterns that unfold to become abstract and trippy.
My design inspiration comes from…
art, music and from other amazing artists around the world. I’m deeply inspired by bold graphic movements, such as the Memphis Milano movement founded by Ettore Sottsass and the trippy visuals and illusions of Victor Vasarely. LCD draws inspiration from the world of bold colour blocks and mixed patterns found in ’60s interior and fashion design. Any artform that sparks a feeling of travelling into a space made of colours and shapes is inspirational.
The biggest start-up challenge was…
LCD was and still is a self-funded company, which makes it extremely hard now as it was then to be active on the market.
My favourite piece from our collections is…
anything with super trippy wavy lines. I’ve always been obsessed with checkered patterns and finally the trends are going in that direction. I’m really enjoying the latest collection I’m making, which will be out for Spring 2021.
While creating designs I listen to…
a lot of techno or electronic music. I also DJ so I need to multi-task whenever I can. I love many different kinds of music, really, but I tend to listen to instrumental music.
The best thing to happen to La Come Di in 2020 was…
when Instagram featured the brand as part of a small business showcase. It was such great recognition.
In the pipeline for 2021 is…
realising more special items and growing internationally thought cool new projects and collaborations.
The most rewarding part of being my own boss is…
creating tangible things I love that people can fall in love with too and integrate into their daily lives, all around the world.
The most important lesson I’ve learned since launching La Come Di is…
to be patient, as there is a lot to learn, and always follow your instinct and your creative path. Another important thing is to have a balance with your work and personal life. And to love yourself, as this world can be really cruel.
Fashion should be…
a way to embrace individuality and your unique self.
You can buy La Come Di items…
directly from the source via label’s website.
