Carl Cox Showcases Label Artists on ‘ASW is Live’ Mix

Carl Cox

A Carl Cox mix is always a special experience, one that fuses his dancefloor sensibility and innate musicality with his unique sense of groove and funk. So, when he challenged himself to mix together the diverse range of releases from his Awesome Soundwave label, the result was always gonna be rather special.

Across his epic mix of 25 tracks from 25 artists, Carl really highlights the range of talent signed to the label and the diversity of output from the Awesome Soundwave stable. Each of these live electronic artists brings their unique voice to the imprint, with artists ranging from afrohouse act Digital Afrika to experimental electronic house artist Stimming; from the legendary and prolific Robert Babicz to the spiritual explorer and player of modded toys Giorgia Anjiuli; and from French superstar Vitalic to the underground live concept artist Hybrasil. Each brings a flavour that is original and diverse and yet they are connected together through their love of live electronic performance and production.

Diving into Awesome Soundwaves

Cox effortlessly pulls that all together with this mega ‘ASW is Live mixed by Carl Cox’ album – and the tracks he’s selected include many of the label’s finest cuts. Some, like Marc Romboy and Andre Winter’s amazing remix of An On Bast’s ‘Climb the Tree’ are brand new. Others, like label mate Christopher Coe’s ‘My Dark Materials’ might initially seem unmixable with their dark and uncompromising improvised form. But not so. And there are plenty of treats along the way, like the mysterious Klauss Tejger’s ‘Fire!!’, an acid banger from an artist that we still know nothing about. Tejger anonymously delivered a whole swag of amazing stuff that the label plans to release as the year unfolds.

‘ASW is Live mixed by Carl Cox’ is a testament to the curation and care taken by Carl and Christopher to build a label that really does transcend genres. Buy the album on Bandcamp or stream it on Soundcloud.
