Former Dubai Resident Salar Ansari Scoops Detroit Music Award

Massive congratulations to former Dubai resident Salar Ansari for scooping a win at the Detroit Music Awards, recently. Salar and Luis Resto won the ‘Outstanding Electronic/Dance Recording’ award for their Ambient Sounds, Vol. 1 release. The pair were up against  Moodyman, Body Mechanic, Dave Daniele, Blair French and Lele XO in the same category. Salar was also nominated for the ‘Outstanding Electronic Producer/Writer’ award.  

Relocated

Salar Ansari is an Iranian multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, producer and sound engineer. One of the key faces behind Dubai’s Analog Room club night, Salar relocated from the UAE to Detroit in 2015 to pursue his career in music. The talented artist has surely found his feet since moving to Detroit – the birthplace of techno. Salar’s partner on Ambient Sounds, Vol. 1, Luis Resto has worked with Eminem, 50 Cent and Nicki Minaj.

Nurturing Talent

Founded by a group of local music and media professionals in 1988, the Detroit Music Awards Foundation (DMAF) is a non-profit corporation. DMAF’s mission is “to support and nurture the musical community in the Detroit metropolitan area and to create a network for musicians that cuts across genres and styles”.

The Detroit Music Awards celebrate music and its creators across 11 genres – Americana, Blues, Classical, Country, Electronic/Dance, Gospel, Jazz, Rap, Rock, Urban and World. Local musicians and music industry professionals in southeast Michigan determine the winners via online voting.

Winners

Elsewhere in the Electronic/Dance category, Flashclash won ‘Outstanding Electronic/Dance Artist/Group’. Anison ‘The Impaler’ Roberts won ‘Outstanding Electronic/Dance DJ’ and Yorg Kerasiotis lifted the award for ‘Outstanding Electronic/Dance Writer/Producer’.

A hotbed for musical talent, Detroit has produced its fair share of legends. Was (Not Was), Eminem, D12, Kid Rock, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic have all appeared or performed at previous Detroit Music Award shows. Proceeds from the awards and emerging artist showcases held throughout the year help provide resources to local musicians.
