David Guetta will DJ on the Helipad of Dubai’s Iconic Burj Al Arab

David Guetta has played many special gigs in Dubai but this one tops the lot. Guetta plans to DJ from the helipad of the iconic Burj Al Arab. The special charity performance will benefit UNICEF and Dubai Cares’ campaign ‘Education Uninterrupted’. The virtual show, on Saturday 6th February, is the latest in Guetta’s #UnitedAtHome gigs.

The Burj Al Arab

Through previous #UnitedAtHome gigs in Miami, NYC and Paris, Guetta has raised $1.6 million for charity. Those shows chalked up more than 75 million views around the world.

“After Miami, New York and the Louvre in Paris, we’re heading to the top of the iconic Burj Al Arab Jumeirah for another United At Home show, this time in a city that is dear to my heart,” said Guetta, who has a residence in Dubai. “In these difficult times, we hope to bring comfort, joy and support through the power of music and emotions. We have supported many charities and helped make a real difference in people’s lives during the pandemic.”

Credited with making commercial dance music popular in the US through his collaborations with pop stars and urban stars, the French superstar DJ and producer is considered one of the founding fathers of the EDM sound. However, claiming EDM is now “more formatted than pop music”, Guetta is diverting away from the genre through his Jack Back alias and what he calls his “future rave” sound.

Guetta remixed Joel Corry and MNEK’s massive Head and Heart track under his Jack Back alias last summer.

Crowned

Late last year, David Guetta ranked No.1 in DJmag’s Top 100 DJs poll. It’s the second time the French superstar DJ sits at the top of the poll. He was crowned No.1 for the first time in 2011.

“The first time I probably won because I was crossing over to a new sound and this time it’s the other way around,” said Guetta, at the time. “With Jack Back and Future Rave, I make music that’s a little more going back to my roots, that’s more about DJ culture than crossing over to radio.”

Guetta thanked “all the people that made our culture”. He added: “I feel like we all bring something to the table. We all built our culture brick by brick and we do this together. I think it’s a moment for all of us to be really united.”

His split personality video interview for DJmag in 2019 sees the DJ and producer answer the same questions as David Guetta and Jack Back. It’s a chucklesome watch with Jack Back telling Guetta: “Sorry, Guetta, you’re too commercial.” Find it on Jack Back’s Facebook page.

The Burj Al Arab gig is free to watch. It kicks off at 6pm in Dubai (2pm GMT). Watch it on David Guetta’s YouTube page. You can also donate online here.
