Tune In: Beshknow Radio Showcase Dubai Artist Aham Tonight
Our friends at Beshknow Radio in Tehran know what’s up. Like us, they’re really feeling the debut album from Dubai artist Aham. So much so, Beshknow will air AH.AM in its entirety tonight. Tune in to online station Beshknow Radio from 9.30pm (GST) on Sunday 7 November to find out what all the fuss is about.
Aham is Dubai’s first home-grown avant-garde electronic artist and his eponymously-titled album is widescreen, beautiful and hypnotic. Released late last month, AH.AM is gaining attention locally, regionally and internationally. Beshknow co-founder Farzan Badie calls the eight-track album “deep and spacey, which I really like”. It’s earned Aham a feature on DMC World Magazine – the online platform favoured by key industry players. And the UK’s legendary chillout DJ Chris Coco has picked up the album’s final track – Upheaval – for his Melodica show.
Maturing Sound
Aham is DJ and producer Paul Josef, who has released a number of tech-house and techno tracks in the past. But it’s his maturing sound as Aham that’s pricking up ears far and wide. Paul claims he’s grown as an artist through writing AH.AM.
“Writing this album was extremely educational,” says Paul. “It opened up my mind to sounds I wouldn’t have otherwise explored. I don’t write music in the same way as before. I used to know what track I wanted to write before even making a start. Now, I’ve learned to write whatever I feel in the moment and just go with the flow.
“I’ve grown as a person too,” adds Paul. “I see a world of possibilities; I look at things differently and have learned to ignore the bias that is so often ingrained in us as a result of our surroundings. I’ve learned to listen to my heart first and then reason with knowledge.”
Missed AH.AM on Beshknow Radio? Don’t panic. You can listen to the album here. “Humbled” by the positive reactions heaped on AH.AM, Paul claims there’s a lot more experimental music in the pipeline. “I’m exploring a few collaborations too so I’m excited for what lies ahead.”
