By Multiple award-winning music producer Simon Shackleton delves back into his dreamstate world for new single Draumur Innan Draums. Translating as Drama In Dreams, this new release is a rich and compelling piece of cinematic and emotive electronica.
“Draumur explores the episodic nature of the dream state and how we tend to recall the essence of dreams,” says Shackleton. “I often wake from a dream clearly aware of how it felt but completely devoid of any narrative sensibility. Time exists differently in dreams,” adds Shackleton. “It feels somehow non-linear – a kind of quantum state where different sensations and plot lines co-exist simultaneously. I think that’s why dreams are so hard to describe with a traditional narrative and why I find them so fascinating and so elusive.”
Cinematic Appeal
Another spine-tingling piece of heartfelt music, Draumur Innan Draums follows on from Shackleton’s stunning tracks Traumstaat and Oplot. The new track takes flight on dusty snares and airy, floating breaks, while the arcing chords create a sense of devastating emotion. The fact that Shackleton – who was once in a band with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke – has composed music for films like The Matrix also shines through in the track’s widescreen cinematic appeal. It is a hybrid of electronic and symphonic worlds that manages to be both physically powerful and musically moving.
More rooted to the dancefloor, the Club Mix boasts a darker groove but maintains melodic elegance. Scheduled for a 12th August release, the Club Mix is already garnering glowing praise from tastemakers like Jody Wisternoff, Jon Gurd, Hybrid and The Plump DJs.

Right now, there is a trend in house and techno sets from Bicep to Solomun to Miss Monique for the sort of rich melodies and sweeping synth work demonstrated here. But few do it with the authority and authenticity of Simon Shackleton. Working with several world-class musicians, Simon is currently putting together an exciting ‘Dreamstates’ live show, which will premiere at Amsterdam Dance Event, in October.
