Inside Viper Room, Dubai

Dubai’s entertainment squad and F&B army have a new industry night. Showcasing some of Dubai’s finest DJs, Sunday social Hush is a weekly party where the industry can network while letting their hair down.

Co-promoters and DJs Darren da Sendri and Danny Kwang named Hush after an old Ibiza workers’ party from the early 2000s. “Darren was a resident there, and it was the one place on the island the workers could go and cut loose,” explained Danny. “Our ethos is the same but with emphasis on support, networking and looking out for our colleagues, while putting on a party for some of the hardest working industry professionals in the city.”

“It’s been a stupidly tough year for all those working in the industry,” said Danny. “Our event is a platform for DJs and musicians who are not working, as well as a hub for everyone in the industry, to network, hang out and relax. Industry and the public can see artists they may not have seen before. Venue managers can meet up with new artists and explore work opportunities. All of this while having a decent party and great value for money drinks deals.”

Co-promoter Darren added: “We’re hoping everyone in the industry – DJs, musicians, promoters, managers, waiters and bar staff – will all come along and get to know one another. It’s an opportunity to make new contacts and renew old friendships. Now, more than ever, we need to pull together, support and look after each other.”

Hush is on at the Viper Room, Grand Excelsior Hotel, Al Barsha, every Sunday, from 7pm. “It’s a cool little venue, perfect for a small get together,” said Darren. “The sound system is decent and the DJ set up is great.”

DJs confirmed to play over coming weeks include Roni John, CN Williams, Jay Barker, Sara Groja, Meraki and Conan Manchester. An added bonus, DJ sets are streamed live via Reelhousetv.com, allowing local DJs to reach a wider audience.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Dubai was a magnet for international DJs. Darren hopes local venues will rely more on local talent as the city’s nightlife takes tentative steps forward. “There is enough talent in the city to fill the venues week in and week out,” he said.

While we all want to see the big names visit the city, the local talent is more than capable of throwing a decent party,” added Danny.
