Techno DJ Ida Engberg is backing the United Nation’s ‘Shaping Our Future’ campaign. The environmentalist claims tackling climate change should be at the top of everyone’s priority list. “It’s so important that we come together globally and unite to tackle climate change. Nothing is more important right now,” said Ida.
The Swiss DJ recently became a UN ambassador. In a video message to back the organisation’s ‘Shaping Our Future’ campaign, Ida states: “Humanity is in a massive crisis right now and the urgency of the situation just cannot be stated enough.”
Profit Before Life
Ida points to the sixth mass extinction, collapsing ecosystems, ocean acidification and burning rainforests. “The air we breathe is becoming more and more toxic and the soil we grow our crops in is dying. All of this is due to human activities and political inactivity,” added Ida. “All of this is because we put profit before life.”
Name checking Greta Thenburg and the Extinction Rebellion organisation as “inspiring”, Ida insists it’s time for action. “We need to unite globally,” she urged. “In 200 years, people are going to look back on us and read about the history of our time, and I hope they’re going to say, ‘thank you’. I hope they are going to thank us for turning this tide.”
“If protecting the remaining wild nature and its biodiversity isn’t on top of the list, the list isn’t relevant,” Ida told her Twitter followers recently.
Ida Engberg is married to Drumcode boss Adam Beyer. She is also an ambassador for Music Against Animal Cruelty, a non-profit organisation co-founded by Art Department.
Ida has just released her first production work in six years. Her five-track EP Return To Consciousness is out now on Truesoul.
