Hit the Dancefloor (Properly) at the Boogie Box 10-Year Birthday Bash

Yes sir, you can boogie! Abu Dhabi’s lovely Boogie Box crew chalk up a decade of cool parties later this month. Their celebrating the milestone with a big birthday bash at art and culture venue Manarat Al Saadiyat on Thursday 25 November. And how’s this for a special birthday present? A return to the dancefloor has been greenlighted for the event. Hooray – go hug a bassbin!

“The last year and a half has been difficult for music-lovers,” said Boogie Box head honcho Hassan Alwan. “We’ve been devoid of dancefloor escapism. There’s a missing link that only quality music, a soundsystem and shared experience can fix. This Boogie Box party has been a long-time coming. We haven’t hosted an event since February 2020, making this 10-year anniversary party even more special.

“Against the backdrop of the global pandemic, we’re reflecting upon 10 years of Boogie Box and realise how lucky we are. We never thought we would sustain a party so long and we cherish our shared memories.” The Boogie Box crew aren’t taking all the credit. Hassan applauds the “friends, music-lovers, artists, promoters, club owners, sound engineers, and all those who played a part in our success along the way”.

Tag Teams

Running 9pm – 4am, the 10-Year Anniversary Party features top local and regional DJs who have helped shape Boogie Box. What’s more, they’ll play in tag team formations.

Resident Cyrill Reaidy and The Flip Side’s Shadi Megallaa kick things off. “Cyrill’s warm-up sets hooked us early on with their calculated yet ethereal qualities,” said Hassan. “And Shadi has been a Boogie Box feature since its inception, playing a part in its creation and returning regularly to share his taste across house, dub, electronic and other musical spectrums.”

Next up, residents Ricardo de Meneses and Tristan Girault team-up with Dubai-based artist Maks. They’ll keep the dancefloor moving with minimal techno and micro house, setting the mood perfectly for the final set. Closing the night, Hassan will play back-to-back with Beirut-based DJ Ronin. Hassan is promising “peak-time surprises, ranging from dub-techno, bass-prototype, UK soundsystem and house-stompers”.

Early bird tickets are a snip at AED75, before the ticket price rises to AED125. Alternatively, it’s AED150 on the door. Manarat Al Saadiyat is on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.

Boogie Box promoter Hassan also opened a new DJ tech store in Dubai recently.
