Future Bubblers: Who Are The Latest Ones To Watch?
The brainchild of tastemaker Gilles Peterson, Future Bubblers compilations showcase cutting-edge music from unsigned artists. The compilations are put out on his Brownswood Recordings label. And the label’s hard work over recent years is really paying off.
Run by BBC6 Music host, Worldwide FM founder and long-time new music obsessive Peterson, the label champions jazz, funk and soul sounds that blur the boundaries between genres. Those sounds are now sharply in focus across the music world, with some of the key protagonists becoming the most talked about acts of recent times.
Talent Discovery
In collaboration with the Arts Council England, the Future Bubblers initiative started out as a “talent discovery and development idea”. Its aim is to “seek out and assist some of the freshest and most innovative music-makers from across England”. Young artists chosen for the initiative receive invaluable support, mentorship and advice.
Not limited by any style or genre, the initiative deals in leftfield music that draws on a wide remit of sound. The initiative pairs each chosen artist with a mentor from across the music industry to help them develop.
Filled with rich sonic pickings, Future Bubblers 4.0 is out now. Featuring Forest Law, Quko, HMD, Kiddus, An Alien Called Harmony, KinKai, Iman Houssein and Lazy H, it spans electronic, alternative R&B and hip-hop, spoken word, neo-soul and jazz. You can listen to it now via the Future Bubblers bandcamp page.
Got a friend who could benefit from the Future Bubblers initiative? Why not recommend them? Or apply yourself. Keep your eyes peeled for the application process re-opening next summer.
