Free Download: Floyd Lavine Injects Summer Vibes into his Favourite Kwaito Jam

Afrikan Tales label boss Floyd Lavine has injected fresh summery vibes into one of his favourite Kwaito jams. Lavine has re-edited Kabelo’s Pantsula for Life, housing up the original into a sophisticated groover. He’s sharing the good vibes with you lovely lot – head to his Bandcamp here and download the track for free.

Pantsula for Life was a great record – a combination of house and early South African hip-hop,” said Lavine. “It reminds me of my youth growing up in South African in the early 2000s. I love the combination of old skool house music and a bit of rap in the South African vernacular. It brings me a bit of nostalgia but it’s a record that still matters today. It was nice to give it an edit and twist and speed it up and make it more housey.”

Nomad

An “African nomad”, Floyd Lavine keeps one foot in Cape Town and the other in Berlin. While his RISE collective has thrown events across Europe and Africa, the DJ and producer is a central figure in Berlin’s growing Afro House scene. His RISE events at Berlin’s famous Watergate and Panorama Bar venues are hugely popular.

African Creativity

With releases on Get Physical, Moon Harbour and more, Lavine launched Afrikan Tales in March to explore African creativity and story-telling. The label will showcase artists from the African continent and others inspired by Africa’s rich culture. “My vision for the label is to tell our own story and explore our own creativity without limitations,” said Lavine.

Afrikan Tales’ soon-come website will chronicle the first-person experiences of African writers, musicians, artists and everyday people. They’ll share stories inspired by the African sound and the beauty of the continent. “I believe everyone has a unique story and this is a way to take ownership of this narrative,” said Lavine. He’s also planning a podcast series to interview people he admires who’ve helped shaped the African narrative.

Lavine kicked off Afrikan Tales with his four-track EP Story Tellers. First cut We Here Now is all rolling basslines, solid grooves and soulful vocals from Lore Vain. Check it out below.
