Co-founded by artist manager Albert M. Carter, Emirates Music Summit launched early 2020 to provide “educational, inspirational and motivational thought leadership events dedicated to creating awareness and appreciation for music locally and internationally”.

British rapper and producer Afro B recently joined a podcast session with Albert (Berto to his mates). London-based Afro B is best known for Afrobeat hit Drogba (Joanna). It made a serious dent on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart in 2018. During the podcast session, Afro B talks reveals how the track came to life and his journey through music. The lads behind Emirates Music Summit were involved in last month’s Break Out DXB festival, at Rove Hotel, Downtown Dubai. They curated a number of cool panel discussions over the two-day event. Topics included the importance of song-writing, the UAE music scene during the pandemic, women in the industry, and the artist/manager relationship.

A talkative bunch of UAE-based music industry faces – including Freek, his manager Elia Mssawi, Aaron Leung (aka Perfect Storm), Ollie Chapman, Megatronic and Sandra Sahi – sat on the panels, each giving their unique perspective and response to discussion topics.

As part of the Emirates Music Summit programme at Break Out DXB, hip-hop artists Moh Flow and AY talked business, music and culture. The siblings revealed why they set up their creative agency HRMNY and discussed their Arab roots. “What we’re trying to do is unbox our culture in a way that we help the world understand that we’re just regular creatives, just like from anywhere else,” said AY. You can listen to their full chat from Break Out DXB here.
