Dubai Singer-Songwriter michele. Teams Up with Jay Wud

Dubai-based singer-songwriter michele. veers into “experimental” territory with new track Sea in Your Eyes. The Lebanese artist’s reputation is growing in the UAE on the back of her neo-soul and R&B output. This time round, however, michele. turns in a “love/hate balled” to her home country. And it’s a collaboration with Dubai-based producer Jay Wud.

Sea In Your Eyes is very experimental compared to the usual type of music I make,” said michele. “It also feels revolutionary.”

Bittersweet

Through its widescreen, cinematic approach, Sea In Your Eyes captures a bittersweet sense of Lebanon. The track is inspired by michele.’s recently holiday at home. “I didn’t want to leave [Lebanon] because I love it. But at the same time I had to because of all the situations happening. I felt this sadness towards the country. So this song is like a love ballad to the country. I’m saying, I’m trying to build my life around you but I’m torn between love and hate.”

The single was officially launched at a recent sell-out show at the Fridge Concert Series, in Dubai, where michele. performed a 40-minute set of original material. Check out Sea In Your Eyes below.

Open Mics

Born and raised in Lebanon, michele. relocated to the UAE five years ago. Singing from an early age, she was previously “too shy and too afraid” to do anything about it. “But when I came to the UAE and I started living in Dubai, I heard a lot about open mics. So I decided to go and test it out.”

michele.’s career started to take off in 2019. She released her debut EP Our Story last April and has performed at numerous local festivals, including Homegrown, in Abu Dhabi, and Dubai’s Al Quoz Arts Festival. “Being in the UAE really sparks my creativity,” said michele., “because we’re surrounded by so many cultures and sounds.” With live music returning to venues, michele. hopes to start touring across the Middle East and Europe soon.
