Details Emerge of Expo 2020 Dubai Entertainment Calendar

Okay, we still don’t know the big names being flown in for the opening ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai. But we do have some details about the entertainment programme planned across Expo’s six-month duration. And, as you’d expect, it’s a proper mixed bag reflecting the global nature of the event.

“The Entertainment Programme for Expo 2020 Dubai will celebrate the spirit of the UAE for all to see,” states the calendar blurb. “It will lift our spirits, stimulate our minds, make us laugh, connect us with our shared humanity and inspire us to participate in the global conversation. It will use the skills and talents of local and international artists across many disciplines, both traditional and contemporary. We are proud to showcase the incredible and exciting work that our international participants will be sharing with the world – including brilliant cultural performances, theatre, dance, music and much more.”

World-Class

We’ve looked through the programme and a couple of things jump out. First up, the Expo 2020 Dubai site boasts two world-class venues – the Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre and Al Wasl Plaza. Housing the world’s largest 360° projection surface, the Al Wasl Plaza dome “awakens” after sunset. Against the night sky, a daily show will tell stories from the Arab region, the natural world and the cosmos. Which sounds pretty cool.

The Jubilee Stage

It looks like you’ll find us mostly hanging about the Jubilee Stage though. It’s the setting for ‘Film Nights @ Expo’, each Monday at 8pm. ‘Late Nights @ Expo’ promises to break barriers “between musical styles, generations and cultures”. The late-night sessions kick off every Thursday and Friday at 11.30pm. And ‘Expo Beats’ is a unique monthly festival. It promises to take visitors on “a journey around the world through music, dance and culture”. The three-day festival has a different theme each month – World Beats, Jubilee Beats, Tribal Beats, City Beats, Desert Beats and Island Beats. The festival “will blend genres, create fusions and expose everyone to both traditional and contemporary sounds in new and exciting ways”.

Of course, that barely scratches the surface. Discover more about the entertainment programme by signing up for daily updates. Expo 2020 Dubai begins on Friday 1 October.
