The wait is over! ‘Electronic Generations’ – the first artist album from Carl Cox in over a decade – is out now. Unapologetic in its upfront, no-nonsense sonic identity, the album channels the raw roots of techno, with Coxy calling it a window into the sound of the genre “from today’s point of view. And from my point of view”.
With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Carl Cox is an iconic figure and undisputed legend in dance music, working tirelessly to advocate for club culture. A global ambassador for the scene, his exhaustive list of achievements dates back to the formative years of acid house in the UK. Borne from adventures out of his DJ set comfort zone and into machine-driven live performances, ‘Electronic Generations’ evidences Carl’s determination to keep growing as an artist and pioneer.
New Challenges
Despite his accolades and years in the game, new challenges drive Carl’s creativity. A sense of self-fulfillment permeates through his venture into the live domain. Indeed, the techno giant played ‘Electronic Generations’ live in its entirety during his recent London show at Wembley Arena. It’s where he wants to be; grafting, innovating, pushing beyond the safety zone, taking risks and operating right on the edge in front of thousands of people. This, he believes, is where the real magic happens.
“I could be complacent and just stick to what I already do but I can’t,” says Carl Cox. “I have to go out, I have to drag my gear around, I have to set it up, I have to get a soundcheck, I have to make sure that when I do come on, it’s intense. It’s where I should be, where I need to be right now for me to be fulfilled in my position of who I am as a DJ and an artist.”
From his live streams, Carl discovered that several of his improvisations sounded good enough to be extended into full pieces of music. So that’s what he did; cutting them out of the live recordings, polishing them up and refining them. Out now, ‘Electronic Generations’ is the result, with the album underscoring Carl’s legacy and commitment to dance music culture.
