Burning Man Art of All Sizes on Sale in Sotheby’s Online Auction

Maseratis and Mustangs are so last week. If you really want to turn heads on Sheikh Zayed Road, you need something a bit more unique. Like this Cadillac Rocket Car by art car master David Guest. Measuring 40 feet in length, the Cadillac Rocket Car is usually a familiar site cruising around Black Rock City. Now it’s part of a Burning Man online auction held via Sotheby’s New York.

The online auction – named ‘Boundless Space: The Possibilities of Burning Man’ – is a charitable sale “featuring the remarkable expressions of creativity that emerge from the annual Burning Man event”. There’s a vast – and eclectic – collection up for grabs, from mutant vehicles to sculptures, paintings, collectibles, NFTs and one-of-a-kind experiences.

Sotheby’s online auction is a collaboration with Burning Man Project. Funds raised from the sale will “support participating artists” and “help ensure the nonprofit’s long-term survival”. Proceeds will also fund their Arts and Civic Engagement programmes.

R-Evolution

So what can you bid on? Well, there’s David Guest’s Cadillac Rocket Car for starters. Want to go bigger? Bid on Marco Cochrane’s 48-foot tall R-Evolution sculpture. Cochrane’s sculpture of the female form debuted at Burning Man in 2015. It would certainly be a talking point if you popped this sculpture in your villa’s backyard.

Mayan Warrior is one of the most popular mutant vehicle soundsystems at Burning Man each year. The winning bidder can party like a rockstar onboard the Mayan Warrior during its 2022 travels between New York and Los Angeles.
