New measures to prevent the spread of Covid are coming thick and fast. Brunches in Dubai are now off the menu and hotels must not play any pre-recorded music. A ban on DJs and live music in hotels and restaurants was introduced last month.
The no brunches and no music directive comes from Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM). DTCM issued the latest instructions to “partners and hotel establishments” via email. The government authority calls for “any activity that leads to large gatherings such as weekend brunches” to be postponed. Weekend brunches are a huge part of the social scene in Dubai. It also calls for music to remain off in hotel venues.
Pubs and Bars Closed
Earlier this week, Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management ordered pubs and bars in Dubai to remain closed until the end of February as the Emirate stepped up its fight against Covid-19.
Restaurants and cafes throughout Dubai must close by 1am – back to the same closing time imposed last September. Indoor seated venues, including cinemas, entertainment and sports venues, must only operate at 50% capacity. Hotels must operate at 70% capacity. Hotels need to restrict the number of guests at swimming pools and private beaches to 70% of capacity too. Shopping malls must also operate at a reduced capacity of 70%.
Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management implemented the rules “in response to rising violations of preventive measures”.
Entertainment activities in hotels and restaurants throughout Dubai were suspended until further notice on Thursday 21st January. Just a week later Dubai effectively put a ban on house parties with friends too. Only 10 first-degree relatives can currently attend weddings, social events and private parties at a hotel or home.
