Bedouin Bring Their Distinctive Desert Beats to Palmarama Dubai

Bedouin return to Dubai this weekend, bringing their desert beats to Palmarama at White Beach. The Brooklyn-based duo – Jordanian Tamer Malki and Egyptian Rami Abousabe – are experts at creating music that blends their diverse influences with their Middle Eastern heritage. And the result is unique, gorgeously crafted DJ sets infused with Middle Eastern rhythms.

Malki and Abousabe are proud of their Middle Eastern heritage and its impact on their careers. Abousabe’s parents were born in Egypt. He claims he is “very fortunate” to have learned about “such a deep rooted musical culture” during summers spent visiting family in the country. That, along with Tamer’s incredible understanding of the music from growing up in Jordan, has lead both of us through this musical journey.”

In June, Bedouin played in front of the Pyramids of Giza. The lads described it as “an honour” to perform at the historical site. They topped off their performance with a special edit featuring Abdul Halim Hafez – one of Egypt’s all-time greats.

Wild Ride

It’s been a wild ride for Bedouin over recent years. They’ve released tunes on revered labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical and All Day I Dream. Their 2017 remake of Pink Floyd’s Set Control for The Heart of the Sun hit the sweet spot. They were named Mixmag’s Breakthrough DJ duo the same year. They’ve bagged the coveted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix twice. After debuting at Coachella they landed a Las Vegas residency and are the darlings of Ibiza. Last year, Malki and Abousabe also launched their own record label Human by Default. In April, the lads’ unveiled their remix of Rony Seikaly’s Mila track.

Stand Out

It’s not unusual for Bedouin to drop sets comprising of all their own music and remixes – another aspect that makes them stand out. Continuously pushing themselves as artists, the Bedouin boys are becoming more comfortable recording their own vocals. “We love to compose and write music but when we get to sing, it’s a chance to speak to our audience and connect on a personal level,” says Malki. “I never thought of myself as a ‘singer’ or that it would come naturally to me. But having something to say empowers us to transcend boundaries and push ourselves out there.”

After rocking Palmarama parties at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa, Bedouin show off their amazing skills behind the decks at White Beach on Friday 5 November. It’s table reservations only so call the venue on 054 5822778 to book.

Palmarama has an 11-date residency at the Dubai hotspot at Atlantis The Palm. Damian Lazarus kicked off the Dubai residency followed by Jamie Jones. The coming weeks bring Andrea Oliva, Artbat, Black Coffee, Joseph Capriati, Maceo Plex, Nicole Moudaber and Tale of Us to Palmarama Dubai. Your weekends are well and truly sorted.
