Has Dutch Producer Feiertag Just Dropped the Album of the Summer?

The superb debut album from Feiertag is the perfect little diamond to launch us into June. Out now on Sonar Kollectiv, Time to Recover drips in lush production, extraordinary attention to detail and sophisticated arrangements. A cool ride through musical styles and genres, the album is artful and at times grandiose. And it’s on repeat here at iamCrü HQ.

Feiertag is the alter ego of Dutch drummer and producer Joris Feiertag. Recording and performing since 2014, he favours warm electronic sounds with innovative syncopated rhythms and poppy melodies. Defying musical conventions, Feiertag’s music has appeared on top labels like Last Night On Earth, Boogie Angst and Kitsune. Kraak & Smaak have called upon his drumming skills during Amsterdam Dance Event, Down The Rabbit Hole and Pitch Festival.

Beautifully Crafted

After two successful EPs and a string of singles, Feiertag finally lets his beautifully crafted album out the trap. Time to Recover opens with dubby head-nodder Stranger To One. Next up, melancholic and shimmering musical soundscape Yearn features London’s Oli Hannaford and Tessa Rose Jackson from Amsterdam. Majestic vocals combine with lush percussive elements and smooth drums, while rich chords work atop resonant strings. Wrap your ears around this stunning track below.

Optimistic

Elsewhere, Tessa Rose’s beautiful vocals take centre stage on Follow and Riptide. It’s Alright with James Alexander Bright is gloriously and exuberantly optimistic. Similarly good humoured, Saccharine 374 is a sweet-tasting instrumental and Stronger, featuring GOSTO, gains more punch with each listen. Feiertag shows his calmer, more ambient side on Panorama before Pete Josef jumps onboard to close out the album on the brilliant Where Are We Now.

As debut albums go, Time to Recover is a bang on the money. Cool, classy and contemporary, it’s the perfect soundtrack for carefree coastal drives in a convertible. A summer stunner.
