Back to the Future: Watch LukHash Manipulate Retro Gaming Sounds

LukHash

Edinburgh-based producer LukHash is turning heads with his innovative approach to making music. He blends modern electronic music production with ’80s nostalgia and retro gaming sounds – to astonishing effect. Out now, Code Veronica is the first single from his forthcoming album.

Code Veronica opens with an almost dreamlike, futuristic riff, which drops into retro arcade game sounds. The track slams into a distorted bassline with hard hitting beats and a soaring guitar riff. With real melody at its centre, Code Veronica is the sound of the past and an unknown dystopian future colliding. Listen to it below.

Experiment

So, what’s LukHash’s back story? Originally from Poland, he’s a classically trained guitarist. But LukHash grew up listening to the original 8-bit and 16-bit computer music of the ’80s, as well as the pop and rock music his parents loved from the same era. Over a decade ago, he bought an old Commodore 64 and original Nintendo Gameboys to experiment with the sound chips he used to love.

Engulfed in the nostalgia of childhood nights gaming in his bedroom, LukHash began fusing these sounds with his new music productions. He posted videos of his sound experiments with custom-modified Commodore 64 computers and hacked Nintendo Gameboys onto his YouTube channel (and later TikTok). His videos went viral among retro synth fans, ‘chiptune’ fanatics and gamers. Check out his mad skills below.

Prolific

Electronic music fans around the world began to take notice. Today, LukHash is a prolific artist delivering a futuristic vibe that pays homage to the nostalgic sounds of an electronic past. His music has crashed through 10 million streams on Spotify and his soon come album, We Are Stardust, will be his ninth. Yes, ninth. It will drop on retro synth label NewRetroWave.
