We Are The Brave Label Boss Alan Fitzpatrick Takes Control

We Are The Brave label boss Alan Fitzpatrick

Well-loved don of big room techno, Alan Fitzpatrick has unleashed his first track of 2021. Giving a glimpse into lockdown life in the Fitzpatrick household, Take Control is a special collaboration with Alan’s 10-year-old son Mylo.

With father and son spending so much time at home, Fitzpatrick showed Mylo how to create loops and patterns on his iPad. Mylo created a cool synth and drum loop called I Sound Like My Dad. (We know! How cute is that!) Impressed, Fitzpatrick nabbed the loop and built upon it for his new track.

Power

Released on Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave label, Take Control powers into life from the get-go. Kettle drum kicks and a rolling low-end are paced by claps and a spritely swung hat line. The tension builds to the first break where a female vocal urges, “Let the music take control.” Nuanced acid and far away trance pads offer a brief oasis of calm before the final drop explodes.

Dominant Force

We Are The Brave Boss Alan Fitzpatrick

With a career spanning over two decades, Alan Fitzpatrick is a dominant force in the global techno scene. In 2016 the British DJ and producer launched his We Are The Brave record label. Five years down the line, the imprint is hugely respected for its uncompromising releases from established and up-and-coming artists. The brand’s We Are The bRave events are high-energy affairs and WATB Radio is 150 episodes deep. Check out the latest studio mix from Alan Fitzpatrick on WATB radio here.

Bold

Alan Fitzpatrick lives by his label’s ethos – “Dare to be different, rip up the rule book.” But what’s prompting and inspiring his bold attitude? Here, he candidly tells us about the brave people in his life…

Bravest human being you know?

My wife, Gaynor. She’s fearless and is always by my side no matter what life throws at us. She’s birthed our two beautiful children and is an amazing mum and wife.

Bravest situation you’ve witnessed with your own eyes?

My uncle Steve sadly lost his battle with cancer a few years ago. He’d always been a picture of healthy living and super fit, so his diagnosis was a shock to us all. Despite various gruelling treatments, his illness was terminal. He was so brave throughout and all the way to the end. Saying goodbye to his family, sons and grandchild must have been absolutely heart-breaking.

Bravest thing you’ve ever done?

Stepping out on my own, leaving my long-term management company and deciding to build my own team is probably the biggest and scariest thing I’ve done. It was huge risk and step into the unknown. But I went with my gut feeling and luckily it all worked out OK.

Bravest techno DJ or producer?

Me because I’m the owner of We Are The Brave!

Bravest club or festival promoter?

I have massive respect for any promoter and event organiser willing to take risks in terms of talent booking. Rather than just going for the obvious big names and giving more experimental and emerging talent a chance to present their music.

Bravest release on We Are The Brave?

What we have coming up this year is really going to turn heads – some of the bravest choices we’ve made since the label’s inception. It’s a really exciting time for the label and the productions are challenging in terms of the techno genre.

What’s your definition of being ‘brave’ in the music industry?

Continuing to innovate and push boundaries with music. Not being afraid to experiment with sounds and taking risks if your gut feeling tells you it’s right.
