There’s a Sasha Gig on the Horizon at Mantis
Sit up and take note: Sasha is DJing in Dubai on Thursday, 17th December. The Man Like is headlining at Mantis, and we’re downright giddy at the news.
One of the original superstar DJs, Sasha’s career spans over 30 years – and he’s still at the top of his game. Over 30 years have passed since a fresh-faced Sasha – aka Alexander Coe – first frequented the Haçienda, but the dance music legend is always looking forward.
For example, he’s playing a LUZoSCura-style DJ set at London’s Alexander Palace on 30th October. The show sold out in minutes. LUZoSCura started out as a Spotify playlist showcasing some of “the beautiful light and inspirational darkness” Sasha listens to at home or in his studio. “As time has evolved, and more music and demos have landed my way resonating to this sound, I’ve realised there’s an entire world around it,” said Sasha.
Feel The Burn
The Last Night On Earth label boss has a new 4-track EP with Franky Wah, out on 18th December, and he recently played a virtual Dusty Multiverse set for Burning Man.
“I don’t like getting nostalgic,” Sasha has said before, “it makes me feel a bit old. I’ve been asked to do a lot of things where the line-ups were more… I’d say they were heritage line-ups. People want me to play old sets and go back to Shelley’s or Haçienda-type music. I just can’t bring myself to do it.”
Can’t wait until next weekend? Well, fellow Brit Nic Fancuilli is playing at Mantis this Thursday, 10th December. Nic’s recent output includes his remix of James Vincent McMorrow and Kenny Beats’ I Should Go and a remix of Radio Slave’s Live My Life. Nic also recently compiled a sample pack for Splice Sounds.
Mantis is in Emirates Financial Towers, Business Bay. Entry is free but booking is essential.
