Simon Doty Returns to Anjunadeep with Blistering 4-Track EP

We’re massive fans of Anjunadeep here at iamCrü. The label has a knack of introducing us to new favourite artists like Simon Doty. Since debuting on Anjunadeep in 2019, the Canadian DJ and producer has notched up four EPs on the label. Solaris is his latest – and it’s another belter. “As with all of my EPs, versatility was one of the priorities,” said Doty. “I want to have something for everyone.”

Signature Mix

Across four tracks, Doty delivers his signature mix of heartfelt feeling, dance vibes and techy brilliance. “I always aim for a balance of edge and character with emotion. These tracks definitely represent that vision and I’m really happy with how they turned out.”

Peak-Time Groove

Title track Solaris is a peak-time groove – all twangling synths, short chord riffs, a signature Doty melody, along with a vocal call and haunting breakdowns. Doty has road-tested the club track as much as possible this year. He describes Solaris as a track that’s “very simple but effective and hits hard”.

Loving Life

House For All boasts a summery loving-life housey vibe, complete with vocal riffs and joyous grin-inducing piano line that amplifies the beat. Proper class piano house vibes. Doty had daytime events and end of the night moments in his head when creating this one.

Progressive Monster

The self-taught producer transports listeners to steamy rainforests with Belikewater. The track’s title is inspired by martial arts genius Bruce Lee’s famous quote about fluidity. Featured on the Anjunadeep 12 compilation, Belikewater makes us want to stick our face into huge bassbins. It’s a peak-time progressive monster.

Essence

The EP closes with Requiem, a collaboration with Argentinian producer Ezequiel Arias. The pair previously collaborated on Sonoma in 2020. Deep bass reverb lends gravitas to hissing hi-hats and swift jazzy piano. The breakdown brings a more ambient feel with breathy vocals and noble strings. “Our first track together was a great success so we were eager to follow up,” said Doty. “I think this track captures the true Anjunadeep essence of being deep and emotive.”

With previous tracks surfacing on Knee Deep In Sound and Last Night on Earth, Simon Doty has grabbed the attention of scene tastemakers by both ears. He’s also planning to launch his own event series – Recess. That kicks off at Treehouse Miami on Sunday 4 July. Get a taste of his club sets by listening to his latest mix for Anjunadeep Edition.

Out now, there’s only one problem with the Solaris EP by Simon Doty – picking a favourite track. Listen to the four tracks below and see if you can pick a fave.
