“A year ago, we started talking about the idea of creating a music academy to help aspiring talent,” recalls Salloum. “It’s a school – a community – to help turn their passion into reality, help them evolve their skills and enable them to do what they love the most – music.”

Salloum, who runs Dubai’s Escape parties, has a very personal reason for launching SAWT Music Academy. “Looking back at my musical journey, I wish I had a school that was within my reach to help my growth and teach me all the skills I needed to be better. SAWT Music Academy aims to help the region’s local talent and to constantly push for music growth.”

Salloum claims it’s “important” for SAWT Music Academy to offer courses in both English and Arabic. “We don’t want language to be a barrier for anyone who wants to learn.”

Benefits

Lots of DJs and producers gravitate towards Berlin or London as their careers take off. But Salloum reckons there are benefits to being based in Dubai. He points to the “potential of growth” that Dubai and the region has to offer. “Being part of an evolving scene is so important as you get to truly work together with other artists in building it.”

Born in Lebanon, Salloum is happy to be based in Dubai. He’s witnessed the city’s electronic music scene develop over the years and is confident there’s more to come. “I think local promoters have done a fantastic job in putting Dubai on the electronic music scene map. From 360° to Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE, to Groove on the Grass and smaller parties like Deep Like, over the past five to 10 years music lovers have really been spoilt with the choice of artists booked to play here. More and more international DJs are enjoying playing in Dubai. They see that Dubai is home to a lot of serious, well-educated music listeners and lovers.

“Several homegrown brands have already left an imprint on the scene here and we can only hope for continuous growth as the city gets back on track after the challenging months we have all faced.”

Salloum is certainly playing his part with SAWT Music Academy his latest contribution to the region’s evolving electronic music scene. Keep up the good work, fella.
