Saudi Music Festival MDLBEAST Soundstorm Will Go Ahead This Year
Billed as “the region’s biggest and loudest music festival”, MDLBEAST Soundstorm will go ahead this year. Plans are afoot for the second edition of the massive Saudi festival. While exact dates remain unknown, a ‘Soundstorm 21’ teaser video states: “A storm is brewing.” Inviting party people to register for tickets, the festival website reads: “MDLBEAST Soundstorm is back.”
The first electronic music festival ever staged in Saudi, MDLBEAST Soundstorm made headlines when it took place over three days in December 2019. Located 40 minutes outside of Riyadh, the festival’s huge purpose-built site boasted six stages and insane levels of production. The line-up featured local and international DJs with David Guetta, Afrojack, Tiësto and Steve Aoki headlining. Nicole Moudaber, Marco Carola, Bedouin, Danny Tenaglia, Jimpster and Jamie Jones provided more underground sounds.
Music Experience
The Covid-19 pandemic put the brakes on last year’s festival. Instead, MDLBEAST launched its Freqways online music experience, with DJs playing from iconic locations around the world. Meanwhile, MDLBEAST Frequencies offers a variety of DJ mixes. Listen to Dubai-based DJ and promoter Deian’s recent deep tech/minimal mix for MDLBEAST Frequencies right here.
Hailed as “another big milestone on our journey to create cultural exchange through music”, MDLBEAST Records launched in February. The label has released tracks from Butch, R3hab, Salvatore Ganacci and Cosmicat.
Target Audience
Now dance music fans can look forward to this year’s MDLBEAST Soundstorm festival. Speaking to Festival Insider, MDLBEAST Chief Creative Officer Ahmad Alammary, who DJs as Baloo, said: “Our target audience for the festival is a global community, a global mindset. People who enjoy travelling and who enjoy attending festivals and meeting people from around the world and connecting with people on a musical level. We’re looking for those people who are looking for the unconventional, the fresh and new perspectives on dance music, and music in general.”
