Music Premier: Listen to ‘Acid Sunset’ by Dubai’s Man Go Funk
Wrap your ears around the great new track from Dubai’s Man Go Funk. A lovely deep house track, Acid Sunset funks and squelches in all the right places. Deep and soulful, the track is also a little bit dirty. The acid line will get you grooving as the chords gently swell. It’s out on Croatian label Dobar House on Thursday 11 November – but we’re premiering the track today!
Man Go Funk is the production alias of Barasti resident DJ Rohan Nunes. “I wanted to make something totally different using the Roland TB303 Acid Box,” explains Rohan. “I listened to tonnes of acid house tracks and found everything real hard and heavy. So I made the bassline on the 303 and then laid down the grooves and synth parts. But I wanted something really deep and stabby with a dubby edge. I recorded the main acid riff from the 303 and the end result was exactly what I was looking for.”
Rohan has been road-testing Acid Sunset at Barasti before its official release. “I played it a couple of times just before sunset and a few people asked me the name of the track. That’s the best reaction a producer can hope for.”
Fast Friends
One of the most prolific producers in the Emirate, Rohan is making fast friends with the Dobar label. In August, label boss Tom Bug released Man Go Funk track Sail Away. It dropped on Dobar House Gruv – a sister imprint dedicated to more minimal sounds. Sail Away climbed to No.5 in Traxsource’s Minimal/Deep Tech chart.
“Man Go Funk is becoming a Dobar House staple,” claims Bug. “His diversity and ability to produce different genres is impressive. I always like that in a producer. The sound quality, fullness of his tracks and his style is definitely there to be heard, even when crossing sub-genres. I believe there will be room for Man Go Funk on both Dobar House and Dobar House Gruv for a long time.”
Good Things
With Dobar House celebrating its 5th anniversary, the label has a compilation album in the pipeline. And this year is the label’s most successful to date, says Bug. “It’s the best year for us so far, considering this awful pandemic. The label parties – once we were able to do them – exploded. The labels gained more recognition, our sales went up 200% and we got charted by respectable DJs. A lot of good things are happening.”
Meanwhile, Rohan has another deep minimal tech EP lined up for Dobar House Gruv, and a remix he created for Afro Latin house producer Mijangos From Mexico drops on Dutchie Music on Thursday 18 November. For now though, get your groove on to Acid Sunset below.
