Truth be told, we couldn’t pick out a former Britain’s Got Talent contestant from a line-up of one. However, since Calum Scott appeared on the UK talent show five years ago, the singer-songwriter’s career is going exceptionally well. So fair play to the lad.
With multiple hits under his belt, Calum is heading back to the UAE to perform at Dubai Opera, on 20th January. It is his first gig in the country since he performed for Meet d3, at Dubai Design District, in 2016.
Calum Scott released his first single independently back in 2016. It was his cover of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own, the song he performed at his Britain’s Got Talent audition. Certified Platinum, it became the most downloaded song in the UK that summer. As Dancing On My Own climbed the charts, Calum signed a record deal with Capitol Records.
Stunningly Pure Voice
In 2018, Calum released his debut album Only Human. The album hit No.1 on iTunes in 21 countries. It racked up over 3.2 million sales and has amassed over 6.4 billion combined streams. To date, Calum has over 50 Platinum and Gold awards for record sales around the world. When the album was released, Billboard wrote: “Scott’s stunningly pure voice is affecting enough in itself, but his lyrics on every one of the tracks are vulnerable and raw.”
An advocate of mental health awareness and mental health charities, Calum is currently working on his new album. But he’s taking a break from that to perform in the Emirate as part of Dubai Shopping Festival. Expect to hear his hits You Are The Reason, Dancing On My Own, No Matter What and more. “The past few months have been a difficult time for everyone working in live music, so I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to get back on stage for this performance,” said Calum.
Tickets for Calum Scott at Dubai Opera are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Prices start at AED195.
And here’s Robyn’s original of Dancing On My Own from 2010, just in case you fancy giving it a whirl.
