Low Recordings Champions Next Gen House and Breakbeat Artists

US imprint Low Recordings is a label worth keeping an eye on. Championing a new generation of contemporary house and breakbeat artists, Low has a new compilation ready to unleash. It features 13 tracks from artists signed to the label, including Evade Robots, Seay, Slim Steve, Hyas and Albin & Nørus.

Low Recordings started life as a Los Angeles-based community united by underground culture and their love for electronic music. The tight-knit gang became known for throwing intimate parties in the LA area, while presenting a regular show on Vandelay Radio. Launching a record label in 2019 was the next logical step and Low Recordings reflects the collective’s tastes.

Milestone

The label’s second compilation album, LOW V/A 002 is the latest milestone in Low Recordings’ journey.

Russian artist Maple Syrup kicks the compilation off with the gentle keys and laidback grooves of smooth house roller 180. South London’s Blo contributes Consciousness, a minimal track minimal track with shimmering low-end and dazzling, skippy rhythms. LA-based Evade Robots delivers In Too Deep, a lo-fi cut with muffled drums and alleviating pads. And O.R.C.A, by Eli Cash, is all electro flavours and spacey electronics.

The luscious deep house grooves of Orthographic Figure’s Outside Path is another highlight. Resident DJ for LA party 900 Block, Seay offers up We Could Be with its high-pitch vocals. Slim Steve turns in Vibe, with its 303 synths, sweeping pads and lively beats. French artist Hyas brings the tone down on breakbeat roller What before Albin & Nørus close out. The Brazilian duo’s track Deep In My Soul consists of lulling pads riding underneath tough breaky rhythms and playful melodies.
