Listen Up: Saudi Artist EON Deserves Your Full Attention

The Saudi scene is still very much in its infancy but there sure is promising talent emerging from the kingdom. Young artist EON is a case in point with his new track Precious Nightmare. Out now on Saudi’s Wall of Sound label, this one gives us all the feels.

Precious Nightmare is liquid and languid leftfield electronica superbly executed. Kicking off as tender as a sigh, with hip-hop/R&B flavours, the track skirts around ballad territory. If your grimacing at the thought of a ballad, don’t. This is as contemporary as they come. The beats and synth work give EON plenty of room to breathe, and his vocals portray a captivating vulnerability. As the track slips down a gear becoming slow as molasses, Eon’s vocals belong to a tortured soul. This is class with a capital C.

Playlists

Looks like we’re not the only ones hitting the repeat button. The track racked up more than 300,000 plays on Anghami in just one week. And EON is charting on playlists from KSA and Egypt to Lebanon and Syria. Check out the official video for Precious Nightmare below.

Debut

Precious Nightmare is the Jeddah-based artist’s second outing on Wall of Sound. In December last year, EON dropped his debut single Again on the label. More upbeat and electro-poppy, it’s EON’s velvety vocals that are the real draw here.

Label Mates

The Wall of Sound label is doing a great job championing emerging talent from its home country. EON’s label mates faluna make gorgeous indie-pop, rapper Namshi is making his mark and rock duo Skeleton Crowd are at the forefront of Saudi Arabia’s growing indie scene. Now we’ll also be keeping an eye on EON, as we’re intrigued to see what this young artist comes up with next.
