Hey, DJs! Jump Onboard the Eco-Rider Initiative by Bye Bye Plastic
iamCrü is urging DJs and artists to jump onboard Bye Bye Plastic’s Eco-Rider initiative. As their international gig schedules fill up again, now is the time for DJs to take climate action. The Eco-Rider initiative put together by the Bye Bye Plastic calls for DJs to request DJ booths free from single-use plastic.
“We’ve all heard stories about some of the outrageous things that pop up on artist hospitality and technical riders,” said Bye Bye Plastic. “From hard-to-get candy to copious amounts of food that rarely gets eaten and plenty of bottled water and mixers. While not all are extreme, if you’re an artist looking to cut down on the environmental impact of touring, a green rider is a good place to start.”
Useful Tool
Industry players around the world are backing eco-riders. “Green riders are a useful tool to help artists and live events be more sustainable,” says Tristan Hunt of the Association For Electronic Music.
Canadian DJ and producer Kora goes a step further, calling for sustainable riders to be mandatory. “Plastic-free and green riders must be mandatory as soon as possible. As artists, we must not only send our green riders and expect the organisers to follow it but take the time to jump on a call to ask questions, explore solutions and express how important it is for us and our planet.”
Sustainable Options

Founded by Canadian DJ Vivie-Ann Bakos, aka Blond:ish, Bye Bye Plastic aims to eliminate single-use plastics in the music industry. The organisation is also working on a plastic-free travel kit for DJs and organises beach clean-ups around the world.
As music lovers, we should all ask ourselves how we can do our bit for climate action too.
