Glitterbox Film Makes Big Screen Debut at Prestigious LA Festival
Glitterbox documentary ‘Where Love Lives’ is heading for the big screen at a prestigious film festival in Los Angeles. Capturing the spirit behind Simon Dunmore’s global nightlife phenomenon, the film is an official selection at the Dances with Films Festival. The curtain comes up at Hollywood’s famous Chinese Theatre, on Saturday 4 September – and iamCrü will be there!
‘Where Love Lives’ is a story of identity, self-expression and empowerment. The film highlights clubland’s vital role in creating a diverse and inclusive community. It features interviews with key members of the Glitterbox family, including Billy Porter, Honey Dijon, Kathy Sledge, Kiddy Smile, Lucy Fizz, Kae Burke (House of Yes) and more. “Dancefloors can unify people in ways governments and religions can’t,” states Honey Dijon. And, naturally, the movie soundtrack transports viewers to the heart of the Glitterbox dancefloor.
Journey to the Dancefloor
Eighteen months in the making, ‘Where Love Lives’ was shot in New York, Ibiza, Paris and London. Brilliams directed and Oliver Prince produced the documentary, with Defected and Glitterbox founder Simon Dunmore in the role of Executive Producer.
“I’m always fascinated by the positive effects of music and the communities that grow around it,” said Brilliams. “Since the inception of dance mucis, dancefloors have been rich ground for community, and an incredible representation of cultural identity and self-expression. Everyone has their own journey to the dancefloor and their own voyage of self-expression to navigate. Through the stories of the kaleidoscopic family of performers that give Glitterbox its heart and soul, we set out to show why those journeys are so incredibly important.”
Find Your Tribe
Billy Porter sums it up best in this clockwise.film when he states: “Do not look for validation on the outside. Be your own validation, speak life into yourself. Find your tribe, find your family, find your chosen family, who understands how to love you unconditionally.”
After wangling a pass to the Hollywood screening, we’re excited to see ‘Where Love Lives’ in full celluloid glory. We’ll also be catching up with House of Yes founder Kae Burke afterwards. Not a bad night out.
