Gina Breeze Teams Up with House Legend Robert Owens on ‘Check Yourself’

Gina Breeze and Robert Owens hit it out the park with Check Yourself – a quality house track that deserves your attention. Out Friday 18 June, Check Yourself captures the spirit of house music’s halcyon days. Sitting atop throbbing bass pulses, Gina’s infectious grooves create the perfect setting for Owens’ sultry vocals.

Based in Manchester, DJ and producer Gina lives and breathes everything the metropolitan city has to offer. Manchester and rave culture go hand-in-hand and Gina draws inspiration from the city’s rich dance music history. Little surprise then that her sound and music continue to evolve, as she explores different sonic realms by experimenting with synthesisers and drum machines.

Growing Reputation

With her growing reputation as a talented producer, Gina Breeze has released a number of standout tracks. Previous releases have landed on Defected, Get Up Recordings (NYC), Viva, Sprechen, Me Me Me and Classic Music Company. The Blessed Madonna, Gene Farris, Tiga, Severino, DJ Paulette and Soul Clap are big fans.

Without Prejudice

This time out, Check Yourself drops on the HE.SHE.THEY label. HE.SHE.THEY is an event space and record label driving a change in attitudes towards marginalised communities. The brand’s mission is “to create a planet without prejudice for people to be people”.

Legend

Of course, we’ve got to tip our hat to Robert Owens too. The house legend does what he does best on Check Yourself, delivering silky vocals that will have dancers vogueing to his lyrics. Bust your own moves while listening to Check Yourself below.

Gifted

Owens is without doubt one of the most gifted male house vocalists alive. For those too young to remember, Owens’ track I’ll Be Your Friend is a bona fide house classic from the early ’90s. His angelic vocals also grace Frankie Knuckles’ seminal house track Tears. Walk down memory lane – or discovery lane – below.
