Ahead of their debut album later this year, Dutchkid kick off their 2021 output with Lemonade, landing a BBC Introducing ‘Record Of The Week’ in the process.
Dutchkid turned plenty of heads last year with a string of singles showcasing their stylish electronic pop. They chalked up eight million streams with playlist support from Spotify and Apple Music. And they ended last year highlighted in BBC Introducing’s ‘Best of 2020’.
Co-written with Joe Brown (producer for Låpsley, Richard Russell), Lemonade is a tune full of hooks, skillfully delivered. It delves into the popular pastime of people watching. The lyrics are written from the point of view of an older man watching young people who don’t seem to have a care in the world. The track’s conga-infused loop of beats is layered with a warm synth bassline and a typically catchy vocal. The chorus adds more vocal layers and a hooky riff before dropping back into the groove. Fierce Label Interest
Undoubtedly ones to watch, Dutchkid are Jordi van Dyk (vocals and bass), Peter Coggan (vocals and keys), Jack Kircher (drums) and Chris Smyth (samples and synths). The London-based collective signed to Ultra Music after fierce label interest. Previous Dutchkid singles include Flight, Youth, Howling and Friends.
Having sold out their debut live shows, Dutchkid are gaining recognition among key industry players. Picking up more fans with each release, it’s only a matter of time before they break through in a big way.
