Dubai-Based Singer-Songwriter Allexa Bash Ventures to the Dark Side

We’re growing rather fond of Allexa Bash here at iamCrü HQ. The Dubai-based singer-songwriter has unleased her second single Heartbeat – and it’s gloriously moody.

Taken from her soon to be released debut album, Heartbeat pulls off a hat-trick. The track is equal parts menacing, mournful and uplifting. It begins with Allexa’s brooding vocals backed by a simple snare and heartbeat-style beats before gliding into a raucous chorus embedded over fizzing dubstep-style synths and broken beats. Lyrically, Allexa confronts the dark side of her personality on this release, with lyrics that tussle between good and evil.

Allexa admits the track received a dubstep re-rub after an earlier version was too shiny. “It was too feel-good and too classic,” said Allexa. “We knew that something was missing. The song is about struggle so we added some dubstep to ramp up the power.” You can check out the track below.

Fusion

Allexa Bash moved from the Ukraine to the UAE three years ago. Since relocating to Dubai, the talented musician has transitioned from singing cover versions to releasing her own work. Stoyan Boykov Stoyanov, otherwise known as Storn, is her go-to producer in the Emirate and they make a great team. In January, Allexa released her debut single Spin Of The Moment, a pop-rock fusion drenched in soul. She plans to release her debut album Dark Angels at the end of March.

From Ella Fitzgerald and Aretha Franklin through to Led Zeppelin, Beth Hart and Radiohead, Allexa has broad musical taste. Given her wide range of musical influences and propensity for genre-hopping, we’re keen to hear what Dark Angels holds. “It’s alternative rock mixed with a fusion of electronic sounds,” said Allexa. “Every song is connected. Every song will open a different side of your personality. It’s a journey for the soul.”
