Carl Cox Calls Up Rising Techno Talents for Remix Duties
Techno titan Carl Cox has just released three spanking new mixes of his track, PURE. Rising techno talents Renier Zonneveld, Brennan Grey and Collective States each give the track a special re-rub.
Released in March, Carl’s original version of PURE is an absolute beast of a tune. His first track in two years, Carl test-piloted the tune at huge gigs like Tomorrowland – to devastating effect. “It’s a real thrill to see the crowd reaction when I drop PURE into the mix,” said Carl at the time. “This one grabs hold with a million techno-tentacles and won’t let go! Even I can’t resist when it comes on.”
Unique Takes
Always a champion of the underground, Carl chose three rising talents to provide their unique take on what has already become a techno classic. Renier Zonneveld’s punishing beat grabs the listener from the first count and relentlessly builds to peak hour techno nirvana. Brennan Grey’s mix infuses the PURE story with some old-school analog vibes, giving rise to longing memories of dusty days on the Burning Man Playa.
Collective States – aka Dan Reid and Gary Benetton – unwind the track into its most minimalistic form. “It’s not every day you get asked to do a remix for the legend that is Carl Cox,” said Dan. “You can imagine how excited we were to get a chance to do our own take of his massive PURE single.”
Dan is also a well-known photographer in the music industry. “I’ve photographed Carl Cox many times over the years and it’s always a pleasure,” said Dan. “But being asked to remix this track was next level.”
Pure (The Remixes) is out now on Carl’s 23rd Century Digital label.
