One of Australia’s favourite record labels is undergoing a revival – and fans of the imprint are buzzing. Melbourne label Zero Tolerance promises an exciting year ahead with remasters, remixes and new artists.
Founded in the late ’90s by Phil K and Andy Page, Zero Tolerance provided a home for deep, dark progressive house music. Australia’s finest released on the label including Deep Funk Project, Gab Oliver, Ivan Gough, Jason Digby, Nubreed and CJ Dolan. The label, adored by some of the biggest DJs of the era, shut shop in 2004. Sadly, Phil K passed away late last year after a brave battle with cancer.
Stepped Up
Now Gab Oliver has stepped up to resurrect the label. “It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 20 years since the last Zero Tolerance record was released,” said Gab. “A lot of life has happened to us all in-between but our love for deep and dark music has never faded.
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring Zero Tolerance back to the forefront of forward-thinking electronic music. We feel this is something we need to do not just for ourselves but all the fans that have supported us for releasing the music we love,” he added.
Twists and Turns
The label kicks off again with a special re-release of Hi-Fi Bugs’ Lydian & The Dinosaur. Phil K and Andy Page produced under the Hi-Fi Bugs moniker. Also coming up is McKeown & Bassiray’s remix of Deep Funk Project vs Austin Leeds’ Subritual. “We’re both honoured and humbled to have been given an opportunity to put our own take on one of our favourite releases,” said Darius Bassiray. He added the result is “a deep 13-minute monster with more twists and turns than a David Lynch movie”.
