Techno Don Chris Liebing Resurrects his CLR Label
One of our favourite techno DJs, Chris Liebing relaunches his legendary CLR record label today – Friday 16 July – after a five-year hiatus. The influential label sparks back to life with Liebing’s punishing three-track Bruson EP and a new focus.
Originally an exclusive home for the German DJ and producer’s own productions, CLR began life as Chris Liebing Recordings. The label morphed into Create Learn Realize when the techno veteran opened the platform to other artists he admired. Now rebirthed as Create Learn Repeat, the label is a home for Liebing and new and emerging talent. Making up for lost time, CLR already has a stockpile of techno bombs ready to drop.
Connections
“My initial motivation for running labels was to release my music without the hassle of dealing with other labels,” said Liebing. “The first phase of Chris Liebing Recordings ended when I decided to rename it Create Learn Realize so it could be a platform for other artists I wanted to promote. Since putting the label on ice, I’ve missed label work and the connections you have with other artists.”
Young Ones
Liebing especially missed the possibility to discover new upcoming artists and help them grow. Explaining the focus of Create Learn Repeat, Liebing added: “There are so many talented young ones out there. It’s fantastic to see and hear what they do and to be able to help them get a foot in the door of this business. I already have some great releases lined up by artists like Frankie Bromley, Gene Richards Jr, Hertz Collision and more. Fun times are ahead.”
Liebing’s gritty and unrelenting Bruson EP is up first though and you can listen to that right here.
Melodic
There’s more to Chris Liebing than pummeling techno. The DJ and producer crossed lanes to deliver his Burn Slow album for Mute in 2018. Heavy on collaborations, the 10-track album was slower and more melodic. Now Chris is readying his new longplayer for Mute. Another Day will drop on Friday 19 November. Listen to Whispers and Wires from the soon-come album below.
