Omeeyat Loves Talent Competition Hunts for the Region’s Next Stars
The hunt is on to find the MENA region’s next stars. The Omeeyat Loves Talent Competition hopes to discover the next generation of singers, actors and comics. And our man Albert M. Carter is a judge. Part of the iamCrü team, Albert is one of four ‘talent masters’ appointed to judge the singers.
“I’ve judged a few talent competitions before in the States,” said Philly-raised Albert. “But those were more youth based. This is my first time judging a talent competition for people of all ages. It’s exciting to see fresh faces and discover the talent of people who may not have otherwise gained exposure.”
Untapped Talent
Albert claims there’s an “amazing amount” of untapped talent in the region. “A lot of people come here from other countries and don’t know where to start in music. I’m always finding new people singing, rapping and playing instruments online and I regularly receive emails or texts from strangers asking me to listen to their music. I tend to find new talent daily and I feel like the scene here just continues to grow.”
How to Enter
The Omeeyat Loves Talent Competition is open to contestants aged 16 and above. After registering online, contestants need to submit a 2 – 3-minute video recording of their song, monologue/movie scene or comedy sketch. Entries must be submitted by Monday 19 July. Successful contestants will progress to talent play-offs and the final rounds.
Hosted by TV star Jad Bou Karam, the online show will be broadcast across the Middle East. Arab film and TV queen Takla Chamoun and Hollywood comedian Ahmed Ahmed are among the talent masters. Star Academy Arabia singer Léa Makhoul joins Albert’s judging panel, alongside Saeed Saeed and Mazzi.
Emotional Impact
“The other judges and myself have a keen eye for discovering talent,” said Albert. “Personally, I’m looking for an artist that moves me. Music is one of the most soulful things on the planet so I tend to judge music based on how it makes me feel. It should have an emotional impact which comes through your voice, lyrics and unique identity. These things play a major role in my decisions.”
Omeeyat Loves Talent Competition winners will benefit from Lebanese Film Academy workshops, comedy shows in Dubai and Los Angeles, music videos, PR campaigns and much more.
