Sneaker Freaks: Build Your Own adidas Superstar Shelltoes from LEGO

How cool is this? Sneaker Freaks can add a rather special trainer to their collection – an adidas Superstar made from LEGO! Yup, shoe dogs can build their own shelltoes with those famous plastic bricks. It’s quite possibly the best thing we’ve seen this year.

Realism

The LEGO adidas Originals Superstar 10282 is just like the real thing (well, sort of). LEGO have put together all the pieces needed to recreate the iconic sneaker. The set includes Originals Superstar sneaker graphics, shelltoe shape, trefoil logo and serrated three stripes mark. Extra pieces make it possible to build either the right-foot or left-foot sneaker. For extra realism, the set even includes laces and comes in an authentic shoe box. A display stand and plaque completes the package.

Icon

“As a kid of the ’80s and growing up in the ’90s, the Superstar sneaker, with its rich street art culture, was such an iconic item. That’s also when I got my first pair,” said Florian Müller, LEGO’s Senior Designer. “So when the collaboration with adidas started I was super excited to work on this model.”

Translating the sneaker into a LEGO set presented a “fun challenge”, said Müller, given that LEGO is by nature “square and blocky”. He added: “It’s been a super collaborative process with valuable insights shared about the art of shoe-making.”

Creativity

The collaboration between LEGO and adidas is a multi-year partnership. The brands joined forces after the adidas team visited LEGO House in Denmark in 2018. Both teams let their creativity run wild, conjuring up product ideas across apparel, accessories and bricks. The product line kicked off with the AZX8000 sneaker in September 2020.

Wearable Kicks

The Superstar LEGO set hits shops on 1 July. And there’s good news for sneakers fans who prefer wearable kicks – the adidas Originals LEGO Superstar Sneaker launches on the same day. Seriously fun trainers, the shoe’s three stripes, shelltoe and heel tab match LEGO’s brick pattern. Big kids will love both.
